Choosing A Niche To Blog About

This is a really difficult task seeing the fact that this is an early stage you need to complete before you start a blog. For example, you can write about books, movies or music according to your interests.

You need to be sure of the topic you want to write about so that later you will not get bored of the topic causing you to abandon the blog. Many people fail in blogging because they lose their interests and forget the most important thing about blogging.

Passion is also important when you are blogging because it is passion that keeps you going in blogging. If you are serious about blogging, go find the passion and then choose the right niche to blog about.

Step One: Brainstorm Ideas

To get the ideas, you need to brainstorm for ideas. You might not believe in brainstorming but this is a great way to collect as many ideas as possible. While some ideas might seem irrelevant but you can filter later. All you need at this stage is to have as many blogging ideas as possible for consideration in the next step.

Step Two: Narrow it Down and Do Some Research

Now that you have your ideas, it is time to do some research on each ideas and to find out which niches you are interested in. You can search through Google, find information on similar niche sites and forums or even browse through online giants such as eBay and Amazon for an idea of what you want to write about.

Step Three: Choose Your Niche!

Finally, at this stage, you should be ready to choose one niche that you are interested in, the most. Maybe you love to write about SEO and you are an expert on that topic. Blog about it and you will find it rewarding to blog about something that you have already known.

Now that you know how to pick a niche for your blog, work on it and success will come along later in life. Blogging as career can be rewarding and fulfilling.

Get A Theme For A Make Over

You don’t have to pay big money for professional designers to design your website. The truth is, you can do it all by yourself. With a few easy steps, you can have a site that looks like million dollars. There are many free themes available that you can use for your blog, giving it the life changing design that it deserves.

I am sure you might be wondering why people are giving away free blog themes. The main reason is simply because they include their link at the footer of the theme. Most of the time it is not noticeable and you get the design you dream of. This is a win-win situation so that both you and the designer get the benefits you both wanted in the first place.

Wordpress.org has an extensive database of free themes to choose from. This is helpful especially if you are a new blogger. Setting up a new blog can be confusing for some people let alone choosing the right theme for the blog.

Once you have chosen the right theme for your blog, you just need to download the zip file and upload it to the wp-admin folder on your server. Since the theme is free, you are allowed to change the design if you know the coding although it is advised not to make any changes for fear to ruin the design.

If you can’t find the theme that you like, perhaps it is time to ask for help designing a special theme for your blog according to your requirements. However, be prepared to pay for the service. Otherwise you can get a designer friend to help you out if you have friends who know how to design a blog theme.

Get People To Comment on Your Blog

To attract people to place comments on your blog is a very challenge task. Even though it is not that simple but t is not impossible to get people to your blog. You might have many traffics coming in but not everyone is willing to take some time to post comment on your blog. You need to find ways to keep the comments rolling in on daily basis but how exactly can you achieve that?

There are only a few reasons people will stop to comment on blogs. They disagree with what you had to say, they get something out of it intrinsically or they get something out of it externally.

The first reason refers to link bait. Link bait posts are often controversial to attract more people to read it. When used in the correct way, it can be a gold mine for you as people like to read controversial posts. You just need to write something that interests you strongly. This way you encourage people to participate in the discussion especially people in your niche.

The second reason refers to the fact that they feel good about posting a comment. It can be either because they need to get something out of their mind or to thank you for writing the post. If you have excellent content, you will have a large audience focusing on you.

The third reason people comment on blogs is because they get something out of it externally. That means that they get some kind of prize or reward for their comments. For example, you might post that the first person who can answer X question will win a prize. Or, you might ask them for their thoughts on something and you’ll pick the best one to give the prize to. No matter how you do it, these eternal rewards are a no-fail way of getting people to comment on your blog.

You will find that people will never get enough of free gifts and rewards so make your offers look as good as possible and people will be crazy just to get the offers even if the offers are simple. Run these events every month or so and people will be coming back to see what you have to offer in the future. Soon, there will be an audience who can?t wait for your next post.

As you can see, it’s easy to get people to comment on your blog if you understand the reasons why people comment in the first place. It’s all about keeping those future commentators in your mind as you plan your content.

Learn About SEO for Blogging

Internet has opened up many opportunities to earn money through blogging and websites. Blogging is indeed fun especially if you blog about something of your interest. There are many niches you can blog about such as blogging itself, hobbies and technology. The only question you should ask yourself is what you want to blog about.

If your main reason for starting a blog is to earn money, you will need to learn how to increase your blog ranking. Blog ranking has effect on whether you can earn money from your blog or not. To put it in a simple explanation, the more visitors to your blog, the more you can earn from your blog.

This is why you need SEO or Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is to make your blog appear on the first page of the Google search result for a specific keyword. For example, if you have a blog about making money online and you want your blog to appear at the top page of the search results when someone search for ‘make money online’ learn how to use the keyword effectively in your blog.

There are many ways to implement SEO in blogs. Using keywords would be one of the ways to increase your blog ranking in the specific keyword. Blog commenting is also a popular way to promote your blog in the blogosphere.

Social networking is another way to promote your blog. With sites like Facebook, Twitter and Blogcatalog, you have many ways to connect with bloggers and promote each other’s blogs. This is also a great way to expand your network, meet more people and gain more experience in blogging.

Of course, some people blog just for fun and from fun itself, they can get many visitors until one day they are earning from their own blog as well. If blogging is such as fun and full of surprises, why not start a blog today? You can try Blogger if you are new to blogging as it is easier to manage but Wordpress is also another favourite.

Are You Blogging Effectively?

Perhaps ‘blogging’ isn’t such a graceful word. For me, personally, it sounds like a worded drudgery the way cereals can be soggy, skies can be foggy, and the way minds can be groggy. But for now, it’s too late to rename this shortened word for web-logging. Widespread blogging is nevertheless one of the most engaging Internet developments of the past few years. As a medium it gives rise to many new and worthy voices and plays a new and vital force in shaping opinions, political realities, trends, and even our language.

I believe that a blog is simply a tool to use for someone who’s got something to say. Let me be clear in saying that a blog is a poor choice for someone who needs a megaphone to scream out to cyberspace in order to elicit a meaningful response from Internet users. If you want attention and want it now and expect blogging to bring it to you, then this will surely be a disappointment. However, if you like to write and engage others on subjects of which you have some command or experience, then it’s a wonderful application with which you can interact with people who share similar interests as you. The hype is well founded.

Anyway, here’s a list of blogging tips…

1.) Be topical.
Cohesiveness in message is not optional. Readers may or may not be interested in your topic, but if your message is haphazard that few will bother remembering to return to your blog because it essentially would offer nothing to remember. This doesn’t mean blogs can’t jump from subject to subject. For instance, a blog with a humorous focus has all the leeway in the world for subject matter, but it would be foolish for such a blog to turn the humor on and off. In such an example, the aspect of humor would be content’s glue, the strength of the blog. The beauty of staying on point and on topic is that eventually, due to the nature of the Internet, you will find those interested solely in your topic. (as opposed to online diaries. There are millions of them on the internet, few have any readers. Email me with examples if I’m wrong and I’ll be able to show you why you’re showing me a blog and not a diary.)

2.) Refresh your content
Create a schedule and stick to it. Realizing that blogging requires time and effort, don’t create unrealistic expectations and be unable to deliver. An occasional lapse or holiday is generally understood but readers returning to find stale, out-dated content are going to find another blog with similar content. New blogs and RSS feeds are popping up on a daily basis. If you have worked hard to develop an audience and a community you don’t want to lose them due to lack of communication.

And remember, what’s old is not new and, for blogs, thusly not interesting. 2006 isn’t the time to rail against Enron or Vanilla Ice. Insight doesn’t matter much to yesterday’s news.

3.) Clear Language Counts.
Blessed is the blog with a clear line of logic. Write without inside jokes, clique-y catchphrases or ambiguous logic. First time readers need to be close to your message. They are more likely to return to blogs that strike them positively. If the first read is confusing there will not be a second read.

4.) Feed the Spiders.

Search engines take notice of active blogs and blog search engines are especially sensitive to activity. If nothing else, search engines are smarter today than they were yesterday and are only getting smarter. In constantly improving they are seeking to aggregate quality; quality blogs are updated several times a week, if not daily, as opposed to once or twice a month. I don’t mean to scare you but a big spider is watching, so dance for them.

5.) RSS.
Think of RSS like a magic to blogging world, because that’s the effect it’s had. RSS feeds are a way to exponentially sound your voice to the interested. These feeds are a great means to increase the distribution and readership of your original content.

6.) Spell check.
Hey man, use the spell-check. I do – if I didn’t you probably wouldn’t have made it to #6. It only takes a minute and can save you from looking like a hack.

Your weblog audiences will be small at first. And, frankly, that’s the way it should be. Who are you to think that half the internet will flock to you after three or four posts of your blog, anyway?

If you tough it out while maintaining quality, readership will materialize. You will link to good, relevant blogs and, in turn, they will to you. While your voice may be unique, your niche likely isn’t and if your content is emitted smartly to the Internet those relevant readers will respond through readership and interaction. That I guarantee.
